On November 15, 2018, the Atlanta Press Club, Inc. (APC) will host a luncheon with David A. Kaplan, former legal affairs report for Newsweek and best-selling author for his book The Most Dangerous Branch: Inside the Supreme Court’s Assault on the Constitution. The luncheon will take place at 12 p.m. on the 49th floor of the Commerce Club in downtown Atlanta.
Kaplan will be presenting The Most Dangerous Branch where he will discuss the secreted world of the Supreme Court, showing how the justices subvert the role of the other branches of the government—and how we have come to accept it. The book is based on exclusive interviews from justices and their law clerks. These interviews cover fresh details behind the scenes at the Supreme Court in reference to Antonin Scalia’s death, Breyer Bingo, the feud between Gorsuch and the chief justice while circling around the questions “Is that really how democracy is supposed to work?” At this luncheon, Kaplan will be going into a discussion about selection from his book with an interactive Q&A to follow his presentation. Guests will have the chance to ask questions and provide their own analysis in this interactive discussion.
Registration for the luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. with a couple options in ticket pricing. For APC members, the general admission price is $30 versus the $40 for non-APC members. Audience members wishing to come as a group of 10 can purchase a table; sponsor tables of 10 with table signs and program listings are also available. For APC members, a regular table of 10 is $300 and $325 with the table signs and program listings. For non-APC members, these tables are priced at $400 and $450, respectively.
Guests are expected to wear business or a business casual attire to the event. The purchase of either ticket does not compensate for parking. Parking is available at the 191 Building parking deck, with entrances on both Ellis Street and Peachtree Center Avenue, utilize the Peachtree Center MARTA station, or take a rideshare with Uber or Lyft. Those who wish to park have the chance to receive a discount parking voucher for $10 at the event itself. Guests must present their ticket in order to get this voucher.
