Sunday, January 22, Atlanta celebrated the Falcons becoming the 2017 NFC Champions! The victory came after a shockingly effective defensive performance and strong offensive attach against the Green Bay Packers, ending in a score of 44-21. This makes the Atlanta Falcons’ 2nd NFC Championship win in four appearances, and leads to only their second Superbowl appearance since they took on the Denver Broncos in 1998. Now, Dan Quin and the Falcons have a chance to bring the Superbowl trophy to Atlanta for the first time in the team’s history!

This trip to the Superbowl comes after a season of both QB Matt Ryan and WR Julio Jones both putting up excellent stats. Matt Ryan was the #2 passing yards leader, with 373 completions, 38 touchdowns and 4,944 passing yards in the 2016 regular season. Julio Jones is #2 in the 2016 receiving yards leaders during the regular season with 83 receptions, 6 touchdowns and 1,409 reception yards. The two also became the first QB/ WR duo in NFL history to put up over 500 passing yards and 300 receiving yards during a single game. Both stayed consistent with their performances during the NFC Championship as well, with Ryan making 27 out of 38 completions for 392 yards and four touchdowns, and Julio Jones caught nine passes for 180 yards and two touchdowns.

Superbowl LI will be airing at 5:30 PM (Central time) on February 5. While this will be the New England Patriot’s ninth time competing in the Superbowl, it will only be the Atlanta Falcon’s second chance at bringing the trophy home to Atlanta. Although their challengers are no pushovers, if their offense is consistent with their regular season and post season success, then the Falcons should have not problem coming home with the title. Fans of the Dirty Birds are excitedly awaiting Superbowl LI for the chance to watch Dan Quin, Julio Jones, Matt Ryan and the rest of the Atlanta Falcons rise up and make history with their first Superbowl win!
