1) Describe what you do in the digital marketing space. How did you begin your business?

I am a Near-Death Survivor, International Speaker, and Branding Influencer. Also, I help entrepreneurs and business leaders with personal branding and brand storytelling.

I started off in the industry early on as a startup tech programmer and eventually worked my way into digital branding and advertising for multi-million dollar Fortune 500 projects.

A few years training with some of the top advertising agencies allowed me to start my successful tech firm in my early 30’s.

2) You began a program called Busting Out of Obscurity, explain what it is and what it does to help other entrepreneurs.

Busting Out of Obscurity is my 30-day online boot-camp for entrepreneurs and leaders who are ready to create a personal brand that stands out quickly online. It is my original course that I have been running successfully for over 2 years. It’s work but gets excellent results fast.

Since creating that course, there has been a demand for my upcoming course called Mastering the Art of Storytelling. It is set to launch Fall 2017 and will guide entrepreneurs and aspiring speakers through the process of crafting and sharing a compelling story. Storytelling is an excellent way to create a powerful and unique personal brand to enhance your ability to stand out in life and business.

3) What inspired you to create your other brand, Live Big Be Happy?

Live Big Be Happy is my inspirational and lifestyle brand. I share daily inspiration and wisdom from my personal near-death experience 7 years ago and my current journey through life and entrepreneurship.

I have big goals for Live Big Be Happy. I’ll be launching a podcast series and articles as the foundation of the site. Later, I plan to partner with other brands, companies, and organizations to reach a wider audience.

My mission is to inspire 1 billion people to live a life of no regrets.

Live Big Be Happy will provide tools and resources to assist individuals in this process.

4) You have spoken before about your near-death experience. How hard was it to recover and how much of an impact has it had on your life and did it push you to achieve more in life?

My near-death experience was traumatic both emotionally and physically. One day, I suffered cardiac arrest and flatline right in my husband’s arms. Even after 90 minutes of CPR, the doctors in the emergency room of my local hospital, could not get my heart to restart.

Eventually, transferred to New York-Presbyterian/Columbia Hospital, I underwent several open heart surgeries. I was on life-support in a coma for months. It was unknown if I would survive.

After the initial tragedy, I spent almost 5 years on a bionic heart. I had to accept a whole “new normal” for my life.

Eventually, I received a heart transplant and was finally on the road to recovery. I began building a personal brand using social media platforms such as Periscope, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. These free social media apps allowed me to connect with thousands of people from all over the world within a matter of months. I did everything for my brand while bedridden and re-learning how to walk from complications during surgery.

It’s taken years for me to recover and each day I’m still recovering. My mindset is healthy and fierce. It allows me to overcome obstacles and challenges and push my life forward in ways that I would never have thought possible.

Within a few months, I was able to become a #1 Amazon Best-Selling Author, build a powerful brand platform, and generate new business. I have since been featured by media outlets Forbes, ABC, Dr. Oz Show, The Morning Show, Thrive Global, and Boss Babe®.

It’s been a blessing for sure–but I’ve worked hard to be where I am today.

5) What can people hope to get out of reading your two books?

You absolutely should write a book in your lifetime. It’s not as difficult as your fears are leading you to believe.

I had no idea what I was doing when I wrote my first book, How to Rock an LVAD Like a Fashionista: 10 Tips to Finding the Perfect Bag for Your Left Ventricular Assist Device. I was in bed recovering and in so much pain that it was hard to concentrate. Despite it all, I knew there were patients still in the hospital who needed the information I was sharing. I did it for them. I saw a need and implemented the solution.

The second book, God’s Fingerprints: Impressions of Near Death Experiences, was a compilation book which selected my story as 1 of 16 stories featured out of 3800 near-death cases from around the world. I wrote Chapter 8, which shares some of what I experienced in the after-realm and some of the lessons I learned. It was an honor to be selected and published.

6) What advice would you give to young entrepreneurs and people looking to possibly quit their job and strike out on their own?

If you know you were born to be an entrepreneur, go for it. Learn everything you can from your job, network and build relationships with as many people as you can, and create an exit strategy.

An exit strategy is what I used when I first left advertising to start my digital tech firm several years ago. I assessed what skills I would need to build my business and connected with as many people I could to learn these skills. Some skills included copywriting, design, account management, project management and more–all the behind-the-scenes operational tasks needed to run a thriving business.

You can assess the finances you would need to leave your job and still have resources to live off. It takes time and energy to grow a business that brings in profit.

At some point, you will have to make the leap to entrepreneurship and leave the comfort zone behind. You know you were born for it, so you can never fail–only learn and never give up.
